Tonight Emma almost broke our hearts. At bedtime she informed us that a friend (also age 4) goes to bed by themselves. She then painted her own toe nails, bathed herself, put her own pjs on (which is normal), brushed her own teeth and then closed her door, turned off the light and got in bed all alone. She definitely displayed much more independence than her daddy and I are ready for.
I went in and explained to her that God made us her parents, it's our job to take care of her and that we love our bedtime routine. She kindly reminded me that she "almost five" and is "not a baby anymore". I read her a book, prayed with her and rubbed her back....just like I have done for as long as I can remember.
I was certainly reminded of the bittersweet truth....she won't be little for long.
