Snips and snails and puppy dog tails...

...that's what little boys are made of! We made a quick stop by the pedi clinic today and at 3 months (+ 1 week) Owen weighs 13 lbs 11 oz. Here are some of my favorite pictures of our lil guy taken over the past week:
He is not so much a fan of the swing. His sister didn't favor is either, so it's pretty much still brand new!

He is most content in this bouncer. It was the best $12 I've ever spent :) I have recently started keeping bibs on him at all times since he spits up all day long!

He will stay occupied by these little friends for about 5 minutes and then seems bored. Notice the stylish Juicy Couture outfit Nurse Mandy gave him :)

He usually LOVES bath time. He has recently started trying to sit up from the infant tub.

He prefers tummy time on cushy pillows!

A penny for your thoughts

On Sunday we went to Temple for church, lunch and a quick stop by the mall. As we were leaving, I pointed out a penny on the ground because Emma loves to find "moneys". It was heads up (lucky), so how could I resist?! She has never put anything foreign into her mouth...that is, until Sunday.

We were about ten miles outside of Temple headed home when we heard a cough/gag. Emma has a mild cough (allergies) so we didn't think much of it. Soon after she wailed "My money's gooooone!" Jarrod put things together before I did. She had eaten the penny. I panicked! I immediately pulled over and my mind started to race. Here was my internal dialogue: She seemed fine, but the penny was making its way through her digestive system! That can't be good! Why would she put a penny in her mouth? Why would she swallow it? Did I forget to teach her to not eat money?!

Of course it had to happen on a Sunday - her pedi office was closed! We called poison control and the representative assured me that if she was breathing normally she would be okay. She strongly encouraged us to make her drink and eat something bulky and high in fiber. She said that we could either head to the ER and play the waiting game or wait until Monday to get an x ray done. We decided to wait it out. She seemed perfectly fine, the ER is crowded/expensive and the football game started at 3 (priorities, right?!)......

Being the worry wort that I am, I called Dr. Dewbre at home. Not only is she our Waco pedi, but her husband and Jarrod coached together in Riesel. It's definitely beneficial to have a pedi on speed dial ;) She is usually overly cautious and told me not to worry. She said that her niece swallowed a quarter and it was never found (whoa!) She said to search for it and that if it hadn't been found by the end of this week that x rays would be necessary. She said that this is a common dilemma but that occasionally coins can land in the esophagus, which isn't so good. There's a short lesson for those of you who experience this with kiddos in the future ;)

I was nominated to the search committee (HA!) Her daddy never got the chance to look for it. Hope he didn't feel left out :) Monday came and went.....no sign of Abraham Lincoln.

What goes up must come down. What goes in must come out. The penny was discovered this morning! It was a little tarnished. My parents love to tell the story of when I once swallowed a nickel. Now I am my own story to tell Emma! We are keeping the penny to show her first boyfriend :)

Three months old

Owen turned 3 months old yesterday! Math has never been my strength, but that's 1/4 of a whole year! He is such a sweet little guy and is a blessing to our family. His precious little smile is sure to melt your heart. He isn't laughing yet, but we can't wait to hear it! He also coos and tells us "stories" if we will listen long enough. He still has very little hair and his eyes are still blue! He just recently got eyelashes! His next check up is late Feb but I'm dying to know how much he weighs!! He still wears a few 0-3 month size outfits but has also graduated to some 3 month sizes.

Tummy time is certainly not his favorite time of day but he does usually enjoy bath time. He loves to be held and snuggled! We swaddle him tightly at night and nap time. He doesn't really sleep much at all during the day, which makes it tricky to get ANYthing done around the house. He still wakes up 3 times on average during the night. I suspect he is starting to teeth with the tiny white bumps on his bottom gum. He has also been extra fussy and has had a significant decrease in appetite. We hope to move him to his room very soon. He is getting to long for the baby papasan chair he sleeps in and wakes up when Roxie makes noise.

We experienced our first bout of sibling rivalry the other day. As usual, Owen was screaming at me while I was in the shower (I told you he likes to be held). I asked Emma to talk to him for a few minutes. All of a sudden, he started to yell even louder. I peeked out to find that Emma had hit him with a small toy plastic rolling pin. He had a small scratch on his head that was gone by bedtime and Emma now knows not to hit her brother!

All of his photos make him look like a happy boy, but make no mistake, his lungs get lots of exercise ;)

"Tu Tu" Cute!!

Yesterday afternoon we braved the cold temperatures to meet up with some good friends! Sandra is a friend from Waco and she has two adorable kiddos, Adelaide (2.5 yrs) and Christian (4 mos). It's neat that our kids are about the same age. We played at the mall for a little while and then went to a bonus dance class our studio was offering. Sandra made Addie's tu tu and she was as cute as could be! The girls had fun! Our little guys were perfect angels and even posed for a photo. They had matching hats and car seat toys so we couldn't help but take a pic. They are about 2 months apart. Enjoy the photos!!

Decade

It's hard to believe we just entered a new decade only five short days ago! It seems like just yesterday we were all worried about Y2K! This past one was certainly the most productive and memorable decade so far :) I graduated high school (2000), graduated Baylor (2003), got married (2004) and had two beautiful kiddos (2006 & 2009). I also moved towns five times (once out of state), have owned three houses, and studied abroad in Spain for six weeks!! I'm really looking forward to what this new decade will bring!

Who let the dogs out?!

We are the designated dogsitters for my parents' mini schnauzer, Dixie. They are enjoying a cruise this week so Dixie is hanging out at our house! She is a sweet dog but has lots of energy and doesn't get along with Roxie. She has already managed to squeeze through the fence and dislikes the cold (hard wood) floors. She would much rather curl up in Owen's baby papasan chair or on his fuzzy blankets! Dixie loves to play catch and gets along fairly well with Emma so they are best buds this week.
